Our System is Broken

Artist’s Statement:

Our system is broken. While statistics of risk/mentally ill adolescents have spiked in the past decade, mental health care facilities remain severely underfunded, quite frankly, at the instigation of the United States government. For reference, public hospitals receive their funds and resources from the government, and due to insufficient allocation of funds, hospitals and patients suffer. The collage is comprised of a variety of news articles describing a great national need for funds. The figure represents a person in dire need of care, and sadly, hospitals can't help them. People always glorify a mentally ill person to seek help, but the place where people seek asylum is desperately underfunded to help patients. Our system is broken, and something needs to be said.
