When Will it End?

When you go to Democrats.org, the first sentence you read is, “We're rolling up our sleeves and organizing for a brighter, more equal future.” On September 10, 2025, many democrats were celebrating the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, which is utterly disgusting and disgraceful towards humanity. How are you supposed to “organize for a brighter, more equal future” when you genuinely think that it is okay for a man to die just because he had a different political opinion than you? Not only was it disgraceful, but it was also very disappointing because I consider myself to be more on the democratic side, and seeing these “human” beings celebrate death is just inhumane. But just because I shade some liberals does not mean I’m shading all.
I am a Catholic, and because of that, I have empathy. In fact, I even prayed for the repose of his soul. I prayed for God’s will to be carried out during this vulnerable time for his family, regardless of our political disagreements. But I will never understand Catholics or Christians who do not believe in empathy because Jesus Christ literally embodies the idea. In fact, on October 12, 2022, Kirk says, “I can't stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, new age term that — it does a lot of damage… Sympathy, I prefer more.”
When this comment from Kirk resurfaced just minutes after his assassination, I thought, “You are a follower of Christ, and yet you don’t believe in empathy? Odd.” Galatians 6:2 says, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” This verse from the Bible expresses that empathy is the law of Christ. So, from a liberal point of view, I can see why many think that they should not have empathy for a man who did not have it for others.
Furthermore, a few days after Kirk’s death, many, including me, have been waiting for his wife, Erika Kirk, to respond to the situation. When she posted her 16-minute-long video on Instagram, I listened to the whole response. However, one thing that she said stood out to me, at around 8:16 in the video, is that she says, “You have no idea what you have just unleashed across this entire country.” And she’s right. Her statement can be seen from both political sides.
From a conservative perspective, the movement that Charlie Kirk co-founded, Turning Point USA, will be even stronger than it was before. I mean, we’ve all heard the phrase “history repeats itself.” Look at MLK, George Floyd, etc. After these people were killed, riots and protests broke out in the nation. So, I can only imagine what’s to come from the conservative side. But from a liberal perspective, replace the “you” in Erika Kirk’s statement with “we.” With everything that has occurred in the world recently, liberal people wanted to bring justice and to spread awareness of it, and so, I believe that they see Kirk’s assassination as a new opportunity.
This is why I said I did not shade all liberals.
Many liberal people, with whom I agree, have noted how Kirk’s death has made past situations be forgotten. For instance, the assassination of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband. This situation was identical to Kirk’s: a person with an opinion being shot to death. Another situation being overlooked, but not as much, was the shooting at Evergreen High School in Colorado, which happened the same day Kirk was killed.
Because of these previous occurrences, I’ve been wondering why there wasn’t much discussion about these situations. But if you look at all three events, there is a trend: gun violence. In fact, Trump claimed that he was unfamiliar with the Melissa Hortman case, which only serves to highlight how infrequently we discuss gun violence in America, given how accustomed we are to it. Gun violence is a truly sensitive topic to me, and I hate how often it occurs. Do you hear about school shootings in other countries? No, you don’t. Only here in the United States. It has become such a political issue that many are finally bringing to light that it is not red vs. blue anymore, but life vs. death.
We are a bleeding nation that needs to be fixed, and I believe that our voices can make that difference.
